Training Programs & Skill Up-gradation

We are currently working with local educational institutions and establishing a team to provide regular tours of the sustainable energy Hub to leverage the educational benefits that the Hub offers and to promote renewable, sustainable/clean energy projects. Raising public awareness, understanding, and confidence in the benefits of renewable energy technologies will help further the adoption and development of these technologies in the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

  • To provide skilled manpower to the renewable energy sector manufacturing and service divisions and to offer consultancy for promotion of entrepreneurship and small business development in renewable energy sector.
  • To demonstrate these technologies through working models and exposure to new technologies developed in the area of sustainable/renewable energy. i.e., Biogas, Biofuel, Bio Power, Solar & Wind for thermal & electrical applications.
  • To provide vital information and support to trainers, promoters and entrepreneurs by organizing research and documentation activities in new & renewable energy sector to entrepreneurship and skill development.

Sustainable Energy is one which is able to meet the growing demand of today’s people without compromising in quality that would be required in the future. Students however may identify projects in related areas in consultation with the programme coordinator. The Institute focuses on the following programs for research & development, demonstration and training:

Bio-Diesel

Bio-energy research has received tremendous attention all over the world due to a steep hike in petroleum prices and their uncertain supply coupled with environmental concerns. With this background NEERU, a 10 days training program on “Production of biofuels characterization from Prom Stern and Animal Tallow processes and fundamental characterization” has been proposed to be organized. This is expected that the training program will provide an opportunity to exchange the experiences and learn about the fundamentals of Vegetable oil conversion technologies.

Biogas/Bio-methanation

  • The Institute focuses on R & D for improving the existing designs, technology and developing skilled manpower in Biogas with an emphasis on low-cost models with the best efficiency. The Institute lays emphasis on training & skill up gradation on various thematic areas of biogas plants, as outlined below:
  • An integrated MSW complex for urban and rural areas.(combined system of solar thermal, biogas and pyrolysis)
  • Process for optimum usage agricultural residues (post-harvest) for bio-methane generation in conjunction of enzymes.
  • Bio-Remediation for industrial effluents and farm revitalization.
  • Standardization of existing & new designs of biogas digesters for biogas and bio-manure production for various sizes/ capacity using multiple feed stocks for such applications as cooking, heating, power generation.

Solar Energy

  • To develop the skills of youth, considering the opportunities for employment in Solar Energy Power Project’s installation, operation & maintenance.
  • Promotion of solar thermal technologies for cooking, process heating, water heating, and cooling. Promotion of solar drying technologies for food processing/agro processing industries
  • Research & development, and demonstration of biogas-solar hybrid technology. Near constant discharge of hot water from solar water heating systems. Domestic & industrial
  • Domestic cooking by integration solar water heater and methane gas.
  • Solar thermal cold storage for agricultural &marineproducts storage. Solar driers for horticulture and paddy drying.

Wind Energy

  • Compact wind energy systems for domestic applications.Solar Integrated wind energy systems –industrial scale.

Small Hydro

  • Low head small hydro energy systems for check-dams and canals.
  • Horizontal archimedes screw turbines for canals integrated by solar photovoltaic.

Other Renewable Energy Technologies

The Institute support to other emerging and niche RE technologies such as biofuels, biomass briquetting, solar thermal, bio-hydrogen, etc. The identified research areas to be pursued are as follows:

  • Demonstration of biomass briquetting technology and dissemination
  • Research & development, and demonstration of biogas-solar hybrid technology
  • Provide cost-competitive, new and renewable energy options
  • Operation of plants on BOLT system and Pilot innovative projects and Fuel cells, bio-hydrogen, etc.
  • Development of biofuel production using non-edible, cooked oil and waste oils, and other feed stocks and the use of bio-diesel as fuel in diesel engines. Study on the growth characteristics of different varieties of oil bearing plants and others
  • Preparation and supply of Inoculum (anaerobic bacteria) for Composite Bio-toilets (as per DRDO) and production & supply of FRP bio-digester tanks (as per DRDO design)
